How to Straighten Teeth

The question of how to straighten teeth does not have only one answer. The most common traditional answer to how to straighten teeth is still metal braces. But these days, how to straighten teeth is certainly not limited to the metal braces of our parents and grandparents. The following approaches to how to straighten teeth are some of the options that we off here at Ricci Orthodontics:

  • Traditional braces. There is more than one type of conventional braces on the market today. And although braces still consist of some kind of brackets bonded to the teeth and lined with wires that help straighten teeth, it’s important to understand that the large, uncomfortable braces of our parents’ generation are a thing of the past. Today traditional braces are much smaller and less invasive and can also come with near-invisible ceramic fittings. At Ricci Orthodontics, we also offer lingual braces, which are on mounted on the tongue-side of the teeth, and so are not at all noticeable.
  • Invisalign. Invisalign is a new, cutting-edge answer to the problem of how to straighten teeth. It involves a set of transparent plastic aligners that are custom made for each patient. These aligners straighten teeth over time, and every couple of weeks, the patient replaces them with a new set. You can find out more about Invisalign and how it compares to traditional braces here.
  • Cosmetic dentistry. Patients with more dramatically crooked teeth, or with misshapen teeth, may prefer to go the cosmetic dentistry route. The procedure changes depending upon the patient’s needs, of course. But in general cosmetic dentistry can involve a very non-invasive procedure in which we reshape the teeth using a laser. This procedure is called “contouring.” Cosmetic dentistry can also involve various surgical techniques aimed at straightening teeth to get you the smile you deserve.

Not all of these procedures are right for every patient. But with the range of teeth-straightening procedures on offer at Ricci Orthodontics, we can make your questions about how to straighten teeth a thing of the past.
